Explanation of the results
The results of your search query usually appear on screen after a few
moments.
Search result.
The answer to your search query in shown as a series of columns.
Source.
The second column describes the sources from which the record comes. This
is in the form of a link. By clicking on it you access the full record.
How much information this contains will vary in each case.
Surname.
The third column gives the surname as it appears in the record.
Patronymic.
If the person being sought used a patronymic, this is given in the fourth column.
First name.
The fifth column gives the full forename as it appears in the record.
Role.
The sixth column gives the role of the person being sought as it appears in the record: bride, father of the bridegroom, deceased, and so on.
Place and year.
The seventh and eighth columns give the name of the municipality or local authority area and the year in which the record was created.
Number and date.
The ninth column gives the record's number in the relevant Civil Register or, in the case of other sources, its date.
Access point and inventory number. (only displayed in the detail result screen)
These are the access point and inventory number for the original document held in the archives.
Note that the results of your search may consist of more than one page. At the bottom of the screen you can link to subsequent or previous pages.
Refine search query.
If the results of your search are not what you are looking for, or if there are too many matches, you can modify your search query. Click on "Refine search query" to return to the search form as you previously submitted it.
Sort.
You can sort your search results by surname, first name, place, year or source type. If you choose "Year", for example, the records found will be listed in chronological order. If you click on "Place", they will be grouped alphabetically by place name. This can make browsing through your results much easier.
Search result: no matches found.
- Perhaps your search was too specific. Try again using fewer search
terms.
- It is also possible that the data has not yet been added to Genlias.
Check What is in Genlias? > Current contents.
- The record you are seeking is not yet in the public domain. Only marriage
records from before 1933, birth records from before 1903 and death records
from before 1953 are available.
- The person you are seeking did not come from the Netherlands.
- The place name submitted is incorrect. Check this using the list of
place names.
- Diacritics like accents or umlauts have not been entered or recorded
properly. Try again using the “Is related to” or “Begins
with” option.
