Once you have used Genlias to trace your forebears, perhaps as far back as 1780, you will certainly want to find out more about them. You can find more information in the "Further research" section.

Every Dutch provincial capital has an archive housing old Civil Registers and many other population records. Click on "About Genlias" and then "Participating archives" to find their addresses.

In addition, many local authorities have their own or a shared archive. These can be found by easily using the portal www.archiefnet.nl.

Conducting your own research in Dutch archives is free. In the majority of cases their reading rooms are open on most days, and usually one or two evenings a week as well. Why not visit the archive in the province where your ancestors lived and find out what it has to offer?
